The Best Mother’s Day Present for 2014 – Shaving a Beard
Back in November of 2013 I took part in No Shave November and grew a beard. For those that know me I usually have some form of facial hair. In fact, I hadn’t been clean shaven since December of 2012. Normally what I would do is let it grow out and then keep it decently trimmed.
This year, I wanted to do something special, I wanted to go a whole year without shaving and grow it out Duck Dynasty style.
It was the “Year of the Beard,” However all of my hopes and dreams came crashing down when my mother, the only person who doesn’t like when I have facial hair requested that for her Mother’s Day present I would shave the beard. I can understand why she would want this, in the next month, my folks will be visiting for Easter, and then the 1st week in May we are congregating in Florida for my little brother’s graduation.
It was a tough decision, do I shave or do I not shave.
To the dismay of my face follicles I decided to follow the advice given in Exodus 20:12
“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the LORD your God is giving you.”
I am sad. I miss my beard.
The weirdest side effect of shaving is that the mustache part of a beard acts as a natural filter for your nasal passages. The first day after I shaved, I was sneezing left and right, and up and down.
I don’t recognize myself in the mirror.
So, it is with a little frustration that I officially announce a new Year of the Beard. It will be a nice little addition to this blog. Every Monday starting on April 21st I will be posting a little Year of the Beard update.
